Approach and anchoring

Enter the Bassin d'Arcachon through the passe between the banc d'Arguin and the Cap Ferret, buoyed and re-surveyed each year as the sand banks shift. Inside, head north along the Cap Ferret shore and drop on the sand close to the spit. The spit dries completely at low water, so it suits shallow draught only and deeper boats will take the ground; work it about 2 hours either side of high water. Shelter from E through SE and SW to W, exposed to northerly winds. Overnight anchoring is prohibited from 1 July to 31 August.

Practical

No services. Port de la Vigne 1.8 nm north for water and slipway. Le Canon oyster village 3.2 nm north. Ferret village and shops a short walk across the spit from the anchorage.

Ashore

Walk across the dune to the open Atlantic beach on the ocean side of Cap Ferret, 400 m across the spit. Cycle path along the peninsula links Ferret lighthouse and Arcachon ferry. Oyster cabins serving local production at Le Canon and L'Herbe to the north.
