Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from the Gulf of Alaska through Chiniak Bay. The bottom is sand and mud and holds well. Sheltered from the NW, N, NE and SE but open to winds from the W round to the S. VHF working channels are monitored by the city Port and Harbours office.
Practical
The town runs two marinas, St Paul Harbour downtown and St Herman Harbour on Near Island, together giving moorage for around 650 vessels up to 150 feet. Fuel, water, shore power and boatyard services are available. Shops and provisions are within walking distance of St Paul Harbour.
Ashore
Kodiak town centre sits next to St Paul Harbour with a full range of shops. The Alutiiq Museum, covering 7,500 years of Native culture, is about 400 m from the waterfront. The Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge visitor centre is roughly 1 km from the harbour.
