Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from Lake Michigan through the Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal entrance, sheltered by twin breakwaters and marked by the Indiana Harbor East Breakwater Light. Vessels enter the outer harbour from the north. Watch the Indiana Shoals offshore, where depths drop to about 5 metres.
Practical
The club has its own berths, a clubhouse with dining for members and guests, and runs courses on navigation and boat handling. East Chicago Marina lies 0.1 nm to the south for fuel and visitor services.
History
Indiana Harbor was dredged and its breakwater built in 1901 and 1902, before the ship canal linked the inner harbour to the Grand Calumet River and Lake George from 1903.
