Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south along the Esterel coast. Sand bottom close in, holding variable near the rocks. The way in is narrow with little room inside; once private, the shore access became public under the coastal law and anchoring here is not prohibited. Open to W, NW, N and NE, take shelter in the Rade d'Agay itself if the mistral gets up. The Île d'Or, the square stone tower offshore, is the landmark for the sector.

Practical

Mouillage forain, no facilities. Port d'Agay at 1.2 nautical miles to the west has water, diesel, and a capitainerie on VHF 9. Provisions at Agay village behind the port.

Ashore

Sentier du littoral runs along the whole coast, east to the Cap du Dramont memorial to the US 36th Infantry Division that landed here on 15 August 1944, and west into Agay. Red Esterel massif inland for hiking on marked tracks.

Story

The Île d'Or, the small island topped by a crenellated tower visible from the anchorage, is said to have inspired Hergé's Black Island in the Tintin albums.
