Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach requires care among the rocks and drying heads that mark this coast. Enter by the buoyed channel of Pontusval between Ar Neudenn and Lizen Ven, best at half-tide rising in daylight. Six buoys on flat firm sand, open to the north, where lift-keel and bilge-keel boats settle to dry out, though a few rock heads lie scattered about. The last visitor buoy towards the bell tower sits over a flat slab a hull can touch at low water, uncomfortable in a north or north-west wind. No approach at night or in onshore swell.
Practical
The visitor buoys, marked with a white V, are free for the first two nights and around 14 euros a night thereafter. Toilets ashore. Water available at the small harbour of Pontusval. Plouescat at 4.3 NM to the east and the Club Nautique de Plouguerneau at 7.7 NM to the west for alternatives.
Ashore
Coastal path on the Sentier des Douaniers GR 34 running along the shore past the pink granite chaos and the oratory of Pontusval. Menhir of Men Marz at 1 km, one of the tallest standing stones in Brittany at 8.5 metres. Shops and bakeries in Brignogan-Plages village 500 metres from the landing.
