Approach and anchoring
The anchorage sits near mile marker 469 with depths of 2.5 to 6 metres and good holding in mud. It is open to the north-west and south-east and the river runs a steady ebb and flood current. Approach by the lighted range past the channel marks. Fresh water is available ashore.
Practical
Safe Harbor Charleston City Marina, the long Megadock alongside the anchorage, has a fuel berth, transient berths and full services. Strong tidal current means a well-set anchor matters here. The Charleston City Marina dinghy dock gives access to town.
Ashore
Historic downtown Charleston is a short walk from the marina, with East Bay Street, the City Market and the waterfront. The Carolina Yacht Club, founded in 1883 and the oldest in the city, stands on East Bay about 0.8 nautical miles to the north-east.
