Space Coast and Indian River Lagoon: Ponce Inlet to Stuart
13 places · North-east Florida
A hundred and fifty-six miles of brackish lagoon, four feet deep on average outside the Intracoastal, which is dredged to 12 feet as far as Fort Pierce: here the wind sets the water level, not the tide. Rockhouse Creek inside Ponce Inlet, an inlet for fair weather only, New Smyrna, the Haulover Canal bascule bridge, then Titusville across the river from the Kennedy Space Center. Indian Point and Cocoa Village, the Banana River where the Canaveral barge canal comes in, Eau Gallie, the Vero Beach moorings, rafted up to three boats a ball from October to April, Fort Pierce and its inlet, Manatee Pocket and Peck Lake south of Stuart.
