The bay is sailed to the rhythm of the tide, 4 knots under the Golden Gate, and the wind, 25 knots of westerly every summer afternoon. Ayala Cove and China Cove on Angel Island, Aquatic Park off the city, Richardson Bay and Sausalito, Clipper Cove between Treasure Island and Yerba Buena, Paradise Cove and McNears in Marin, Alameda on the east side. Outside the bay, Half Moon Bay and Drakes Bay are the only shelters within 30 miles.
